Web Audio Lab (WAL) is an interactive online learning platform for out-of-class foreign language practice.
It was developed by Slava Paperno and others at Cornell University.
Teachers at Cornell and elsewhere have used WAL to design lively exercises for students to listen to sound,
watch video, examine texts, practice speaking in the target language, and submit their recordings as homework.
Hundreds of exercises in Burmese, Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Swahili, and Yoruba
are available on this website. They can be used by students enrolled in a language class at a participating school and
by independent learners anywhere.
WAL is not a money-making project. To cover our expenses, a small per-course fee is charged to the students who submit homework for
classes, but even they can use WAL for free at their language lab. For details, please refer to our FAQ below.
